Preparing

  • Moving house can be a stressful and overwhelming experience, SJR suggest drawing up a comprehensive moving house checklist, this will help you plan your move and make the process as stress-free as possible.
  • Regard moving as an opportunity to get rid of belongings you no longer need. Consider making ”donate” and “sell” piles in each room for things you could do without.
  • People have a tendency to keep outdated paperwork for a very long time. Realise that paper is very heavy. Do yourself a favour and get rid of any outdated documents prior to moving..
  • Make sure you have a generous supply of packaging tape, scissors, markers and labels.
  • Defrost your refrigerator in time for moving day.

Edit

SJR staff are highly trained and professional, we will do all we can to make your move go as quickly and as pain free as possible. Below are some tips on how to save time and money on your move.

Hallways – As a general rule SJR will focus on the larger items first, if your hallways are clear this will enable them to have an unimpeded run through the house. These items include couches, beds, tables, tallboys and the like.

Edit
  • This can make all the difference, if all your items are packed and boxed up neatly the team will make light work of your move. If boxes are overfull or extremely heavy this will slow down your move or even worse, boxes will break and need to be repacked. Make sure you use proper moving boxes and label them (label the tape not the box) so the team know which room they will be placed in.
  • Disassemble – If you are able to disassemble your furniture and unplug any whitegoods. Taking apart beds can also save a lot of time on the moving day.
  • Dangerous goods – SJR will not move any dangerous goods.
Edit

Our furniture removalists will dismantle basic items such as bed frames and other large furniture. Our furniture removalists will not dismantle IKEA items and recommend you organise a handyman to complete this prior to your house move day. To save time, it is recommended that you dismantle the furniture prior to our furniture removalists arriving.

Edit

There is no hard and fast rule as every move is different. It all depends on how prepared you are, how much you are moving and accessibility at each address, traffic and so on. Travel time may be included in moves that are out of our catchment area, speak with your consultant about this prior to booking your move.

Edit

You might not consider a liquid such as wine to be a dangerous good, but when transporting bottles alongside furniture, even the smallest of spills can create problems. Wine has the ability to stain furniture, clothes and fine art beyond repair. Extra care should be taken when transporting liquids to avoid any issues. Liquids which are considered dangerous include detergents, arsenic, pesticides and liquid polishes.

Edit

At the time of booking, your consultant will give you an estimate on how many trucks and movers are required, it is important to give an accurate and detailed inventory at time of booking, this will help mitigate errors. If for some reason your belongings cannot fit in the truck(s) provided, we may be able to return for a second trip. If there are only a few items left SJR will try and pack items that will not fit in your personal vehicle first.

Edit

For the most part we can move plants, this depends on the size, weight, access and condition of the pots/plants. Your team leader will assess on the day and consult with you regarding options. Because plants can stain your belongings it is suggested, where possible, to hire a trailer to move these items separately.

Edit

Yes, our removalists can disconnect fridges, televisions, washing machines, dryers etc. It is suggested that fridges are not switched back on for at least 24 hours after you move to allow the gas to settle.

Edit

Strawberry James Removals have an online booking, cubic calculator, and materials ordering system. Once you have booked your move you will be sent our T&Cs and a deposit request invoice to lock in your move. A dedicated move consultant will contact you directly to run through the details. If you prefer, you can call directly on 1800 914 411 and speak with a consultant.

Edit

The first payment will be made via credit card or direct transfer. SJR take a deposit on booking and the remainder of the charges immediately upon completion of the job.

Edit

SJR are covered for transit insurance and our furniture removalists are highly trained and some of the best in the business, however, sometimes accidents do happen. In most cases, your house and contents insurance won’t cover you in the case of an accident (some providers do offer this service), so we recommend you consider CARTS insurance brokers, this cannot be organised on the day so you will need to speak with them in advance.

Edit

You can cancel your removalist service any time up to 72 hours prior to your move date with no penalty. Cancellations after this incur loss of deposit.

Edit

The interstate relocation of your belongings can take from 1 to 3 days. When you move with Strawberry James Removals you get a full door to door service, you will not have to wait until a container is full or rely on other modes of transport to align before you receive your goods. This “single provider” service is the fastest and safest way to move your belongings.

Edit

You will need to consider packing, storage (if required), vehicle transport, end of lease cleaning and pet relocation. If your items are going to be stored for over 3 months we suggest using plastics to prevent mould, bugs and other environmental factors, these are available via our website www.strawberryjames.com. Ask your consultant about our packing services at time of booking.

Moving Tips & Tricks

Edit

One month before your desired move date you should have your removalist locked in and packing materials ready. If you are prepared you will not have any last minute rush for your move. You may think two months out from moving day is too early to start a moving checklist. This will give you time to deal with any unexpected obstacles should they arise.

Edit

Team Leader – When your removalist arrives the team leader will request a walkthrough of your house where you can make note of any speciality items and put together a plan of attack. This is a great opportunity to confirm your destination and any access requirements such as keys/buzzers and parking

  • Everything has been packed
  • All utilities have been disconnected and turned off
  • The house is secure
  • The garage door opener has been left behind
  • Your house keys have been returned to your solicitor or real estate agent.
  • Make sure all access points are clear for your removalists
  • Explain to your removalists where you want your belongings placed—provide a copy of your furniture floor plan
  • Check all utilities are connected. It may take time for your hot water to heat up if the gas pilot has to be relit.
  • Check the condition of your new home and take photos where possible of any defects. Check for items left behind by previous occupants. Make sure poisonous and toxic substances are removed, and the garden is safe for pets and children.
  • Leave your fridge standing upright for at least three hours (24 to be safe) before you switch it on. This allows the coolant gas to settle
  • Make assembling your beds a priority and then unpack the kitchen, bathroom and other key areas.
  • Most of all enjoy your new home.
